TOPIC: 3 new coaches running

3 new coaches running 7 years 10 months ago #5298

Nice job on your coaches. I'm working on 5 Pbn suburban coaches and 1 combine myself from Bethlehem Car Works. They are looking great. I had no luck using the decals. They are probably 20 years old. They fall apart. Any advice. Should I chuck em and order 6 new sets.
My kids chipped in and bought me the olive green commuter set in H.O., my scale. They need lights, DCC, and couplers. Made by Imperial. Wish I could model at least another 4 coaches for electric service.
Now I'm also contemplating overhead catenary but am having difficulty locating H beam stock for the columns and crossbeams. I'm not easily daunted. I rode trains in and out of Reading Terminal for most of my youth in the 60's and 70's. The pictures are in my mind. That is what separates we modelers from just being train Engineers. Patience and a picture in our minds of how the finished product should look. When we are satisfied, the job is done. Good luck on your coaches. I'll keep in touch and try to send you some pix. The coaches are looking good. Now for glazing, shades and a few people heading to Atlantic City for some fun!

John C. - I never had any luck with the Bethlehem CW decals when I built my handful of cars in the '90's. I went to Champ - not sure if you can get them any more. Some bronze sets available from Des Plaines Hobbies, although I use the yellow - which is what I see in colour photos in various books.

Nice job on the coaches. They look great. You must have exercised great care and patience and it paid off. Fox Chase Local on Track 3, All Aboard. Load up the passengers and leave on time.
