TOPIC: Question for Ron Giordani

Question for Ron Giordani 10 years 6 months ago #2045

At the Reading Modelers Meet I had a chance to chat with Ron about his terrific models, including his AS16s.

Ron, you said you use VO cabs for the Reading AS16s. I went to the Bowser website and there are two types.

Can you tell me which one you used?

Thanks,

Dave Owens

I didn't see this posted here, but I did reply to Dave by email. The Stewart cabs on the AS16 are not the correct style. I think that cab was from a much earlier version of Baldwin AS16. I have seen that style cab on the VO's, and the RDG had some VO's with that style cab. The roof of the cab is incorrect and realistically, the whole cab itself is very crude. To have a more accurate cab, you need to use the Bowser/Stewart VO cab #200. You do have to rebuild both end walls and reduce the size of the side windows. By doing that, you can make actual end cab windows instead of portholes.
If you look at prototype pictures, you can see clearly the cab on the Stewart model is off the mark. There are other short comings to the body as well. But, Steve did fill a void for us, and I don't see Bowser spending the money to upgrade a limited model.
