Here is the progress so far. I am "roughing out" a version of the north end of this facility. The prototype freight station number 6 was about 8 or so 40 foot boxcars long. Mine is 3 at forty or 2 fifty footers. The second siding is for loading from the freight station with a bridge between boxcars or simply a team track spot. Here goes and forgive the quality of the photos.

Thank you!!!!
That is an incredible photeo.
That is right at Noble Stret looking west.
The elevated line is Septa (PRT in those days) Frankford Elevated. It is running up Front St.
That El hss now been relocated a block west to accommodate I 95.

The lettering on the north end of Freight house says P&R Ry, Outward Frieght?

My modeling effort looks almost identical to this. Now if only I could learn how to post new pictures since Photo Bucket wreaked their havoc last year.
Thanks again Chris

Chris, the photo was taken to illustrate the progress of the El structure. If you want to see more photos in this area (of which I've saved a bunch), go to Phillyhistory.org and do a map search of the Noble St. yard area.

I live near Phila and work in S. Phila, so I'm familiar with how this area looks now. I've been researching the American Street portion of the Bethlehem Branch for a buncha years and the City Archives have been a big help for this part of it and going up to the old Schmidt's brewery. Above there, the scanned photo quantity thins out greatly.

You are correct with the lettering. The freight houses were dedicated to either inbound or outbound freight, to help simplify the processing.

RDG Piers 25, 26 and 27 are behind the photographer in the view I sent.

Here's a sad pic of the demolition involved in putting I-95 through this area.

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
