Daniel,

If you have access to old Model Railroaders, they did an article on the U30C in the June 1996 issue (pages 80-84). It’s a brief article with a drawing and states what we already know, that the phase I has the same carbody as the U28C. Model Railroader also did an article on the U28C with drawings, but I can’t find my copy to provide the year and month of the issue. Unfortunately for us Reading modelers, the phase I was only owned by the Atlantic Coast Line, C&O, Soo Line, PRR, and of course the Reading. The phase II and III were sold in greater quantities to more railroads. Consequently, model manufacturers have only produces the later phases. However, considering that Bowser Trains did the C430, another low production quantity locomotive, we might yet see a phase I U30C. Does anyone know Lee English well enough to convince him that Bowser should do the Reading U30C?

Good luck with your project.

Mark
