What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

tomorrow April 4,2017 will be the LAST RUN on the ex Reading Venice branch in Manayunk. the paper mill(where I work) is closing on April 14,2017 and this will be the last freight movement on the branch. ESPN will pull the last three empties and take them to Falls yard. thus ending service since the branch was built in 1889.

Sorry to hear, and thanks for letting us know. It's sad to see what has happened to industry in this country. Riding around Reading is an eye-opener.

Sad day. The Paperwork mill at the west end of Flat Rock Road has been around since the mid-1800's in one form or another. I can remember it in the 1960's and '70's as Container Corporation of America (CCA) when my father worked there. A highlight for any visit was if the Reading was switching the plant. Boxcars of scrap paper inbound, various chemicals in tanks and outbound paperboard (not cardboard) in boxcars. Much of the packaging for Americas favourite consumer products was manufactured there - Pepsi, Tide, Pringles are a few of what I remember getting samples for.
