What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Some photos from about 1985. Camera was a Pentax, at this point.

Saw these on my first Steamtown ride, about August of 1985, on the way to Moscow. I knew the paint wasn't right, but a blimp car is unique, not matter what the paint.

Tamaqua station about late May or June 1985. My brother and I had decided to revisit some earlier places we'd been with our parents, 5-8 years before, but in our own vehicle, deciding to stop where we wanted, unlike previously. My brother was on leave from the Army at this point.

As seen from the second photo, we don't need an engine house on our layouts, just a sand house or sand car, fuel tanker and something for storage. Note the rack with the oil drums.

Gee, Chris, you win the prize. It was taken near the intersection of Cressona Road (back way to Pottsville) and the trail. I shot it on my way to work one morning, when I worked in downtown Pottsville. It is near the former bridge location.

Sorry, no shots in Minersville that I know of.

Here's a shot of 5207, I don't know the location, but I'm guessing Rutherford.

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
