I am considering purchasing this model to cannibalize the chassis to repower a Bachmann I-10 model. Does anyone have experience with the Varney model and an opinion of its drive. Noted that the model is suffering the crumbling metal of early loco kits. Thank you, Evan

about 20 to 25 years ago Bowser made a retro fit chasis for the Bachmann I-10. I dont know if it available any more or not.

Save yourself all that trouble and pick up a Bachmann "PLUS" I-10.
They have an improved can motor, run well, and come up on ebay regularly for around $60 to $75. If you're dead set on bashing one, go with a Bachmann Spectrum chassis. Very easy to find.

By the way, the repowering kits occasionally show up on eBay. Have scored a few good buys finding them used to repower other plastic steam models. Evan Leisey
