Description:
After our visit to Birdsboro, we conclude our first day of railfanning Jerry Strangarity's Reading layout by heading over to the crossing at Wertz Feed and Grain. We're rewarded with this shot of an NMj caboose passing the mill.
The Wertz Mill is a prototype structure, and still stands along the Lebanon Valley Branch in Wernersville, PA. Jerry's model is not an exact replica, but follows the general lines of the prototype. Jerry's construction techniques for this building were featured in an article in the November, 1991 Railroad Model Craftsman.

Description:
This photo provides a better view of the Wertz Feed Mill, based on the prototype that still stands along the Lebanon Valley Branch in Wernersville, PA. Both the Mill and the Reading water tank at left were subjects of modeling articles that Jerry wrote for Railroad Model Craftsman in the 1990s. The water tank is of primarily styrene construction, with plastic brick siding for the base.
