This board is the place where questions and information specific to MODELING the Reading Company, its equipment and operations can be shared - questions like "What was the window arrangement of AF Tower in Alburtis?" and "What color paint do YOU use to paint the Reading's cream-and-brown buildings?" We also want to hear about YOUR Reading modeling projects!

In the Photo section of this website John Hall has a very nicely done scratch-built S-scale model of this power car. I'm thinking this might be a nice HO project to tackle as a first scratch-build. Does anyone have a copy of his reference from The Beeline 1982 Issue #2. My library doesn't go back quite that far. Thanks.--Dave

this car survived up until a couple of years ago, on the New Hope & I vyland at Grenoble siding. some vandals got to it and set it on fire. I think only the trucks are left. it was purchased by George Hart in the 1960's, and sat on a siding in Buckingham. when George Hart moved his equipment to Jim Thorpe, this car and a wooden milk refer were deemed not movable by rail, and kept on the NH&I.

I don't think you would need to scratch build this. I model N scale, but HO most definitely should have a double-sheathed boxcar model to begin with, and I know for sure they have auxiliary doors that you can buy separate from the car. Someone who models HO would know a lot faster which models are worth buying, but i know they are available, and would save a ton of time and needless hours.

Turboboost910--You are probably correct on all counts. However, I just would like the experience of scratchbuilding and think starting on something relatively simple made sense. An all wood boxcar seems like the way to go.--Dave

Scratchbuilding is a challenging job, but a box car is probably a good start. I have a drawing I did back in the 80's of a standard Reading Freight House (bascially a large box) that is on my "to do" list.
