TOPIC: New GHB RDG CRUSADER SET

New GHB RDG CRUSADER SET 10 years 5 months ago #2329

I agree 100% the cars are beautiful. The issue I had with them was there is no play between the body and truck bolsters, prohibiting the truck from slewing properly. My curves are super-elevated and they climbed right off the high rail.

Rick--I saw your previous posts regarding the Crusader set in general and the truck play specifically. After reading through your comments a few times, I thought your trimming-the-pins fix was simple enough that the problem didn't deter me from purchasing the car set. Thanks for all the input.--Dave

Dave:

Glad I could help. If you trim those pins, be very careful. If you trim them too much, the cars will rock excessively.

Best,
Rick

The five car set came today--an early Christmas present to me! They are really nice...One other question on trimming the pins--did you trim both ends of each car or just one end to get a "three point" mount of sorts?--Dave

Dave:

I trimmed the pins on both ends. The main reason I did this was because my curves are super-elevated and the pins "rigidized" the interaction between the truck and body bolsters.
Before you trim anything, I would test run the cars first. You may not have to trim them.
Please keep me posted; I'm interested in how you do with this.

Rick, right now I don't have a layout, and I'm probably a year away from starting one. I do plan to super-elevate the curves. I guess I'll just have to wait awhile before jumping into car modifications. I will keep you posted. Thanks for your input.--Dave
