Do i need to spray a gloss coat on my model before i plop these on? I have a tender that I need to rivet-ize, but i didn't want to go through the hassle of painting it until the rivets are on. Or will they stick to the bare plastic and styrene?

From my personal experience I used Micro-Mark's rivets and used a gray primer, with a clear, then solvaset with good results. The two steps used mainly for visual alignment. I have tried once to "cheat" with a black Bowser hopper no paint, no clear, but glossy surface. I used regular decals with poor results. The decals never snuggled down, eventually fell off. Take the few extra minutes, you will be glad in the long run!

While my reference is not with rivet strips, I have applied decals to the bare plastic of a Branchline undecorated boxcar with no problems at all, either with the decals snuggling down or staying on. I did wash the carbody with my usual Lava soap and water slurry prior to placing the decals.--Dave

I feel it works better if you put some gloss clear coat down, you don't have to really stress about all the air pockets and if you are going to continue to work on the piece I'd suggest a clear coat after they like to bump off when you aren't paying attention.

The Archer decals will attach themselves to the bare plastic. But I add a light coat of Future floor wax in the areas that I'm decaling with them, they do bond better that way. B)

Like Casey, I also suggest a clear coat after applying the decals. I forgot to mention I used ModelMaster Lusterless Flat spray on the boxcar before any weathering was done.--Dave
