Before WWII Lionel offered pre-made scenic plots, they were complete scenes ready to drop-in. I decided to borrow the idea to do a few for the new layout using Clever Models company houses, leftover masonite, paint and some painters tape..

My results aside, I think the concept has great potential

- The plots can be made on the table or workbench, no reaching across the layout to build

- Easy to remove for modification or dusting

- Curbs are built in, and a thinner material (or the layout surface) can be used for the streets.

- If you've got more structures than layout space you could swap out plots, change industries, seasons, etc.

Brady... your modeling efforts are just fine - really nice in fact!! While not a new idea, it has much merit and can work very well. And as you have suggested - you can change a whole scene, era, etc... any time you want/need to.
Thanks,
Barry

This is a great idea, and in fact is how a lot of modelers approach scenery, particularly when building craftsman structures - they'll build the structure and surrounding scenery as a small diorama and then insert it into the layout itself. Certainly makes it easier to focus on construction of the kit to do it at the workbench and "in" its final setting - than doing it on the layout itself...

Also makes for a nice way to bring a structure model to a show! Good idea reborn.--Dave

Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
