Mitch there was no harm in your comments; they were very informative and helpful. Actually, I had my suspicions that the Athearn cars were not correct (hence my request for comments). At nearly $28 per car retail price, I would like to see more than just reworked 20 plus year old tooling that really isn’t accurate to the prototype. Maybe some will find these cars “ok” as fleet builders on larger layouts, which is fine. However, I starting to get finicky about the details and what models I buy.

LOL - maybe they were good fleet builders when they were 3.25 per car, not building fleet too fast at 28 per car......

Posting this here to keep the discussion going. This was taken in Tamaqua in March, 1976. Note the Ore Service notation in the upper left.

Thank you Bill for posting the HTw with the Ore Service Stencil. I originally thought that all of those HTw cars were painted with the orange panel. Here's proof otherwise!

BTW what is the car number?

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
