Well, now that winter seems to be over, what the heck am I doing building a snow plow? Well... at our local NMRA Div meetings we have show & tell each meeting and every 2 years or so, we so snow removal equipment as the subject. For near 20 years, I have been hauling in my UNbuilt RCT&HS snow plow kit. This is a resin kit made by B... (can't remember the name) for the RCT&HS.

So I've got it almost done... will post some pictures in a few days... but the question I need answered please... was the upper end of the plow "open"?

You have the large flat "blade" and then the V shaped blade on top of the flat blade. The V shape has a "top" to it so it is 3 sided, but when mounted to the flat blade the "top or rear" is open. That could get filled with dirt, water, debris... so I'm wondering if there should be another piece of the blade to close that off.

I have the instructions, the RDG frieght car book and the BeeLine article from 1988, but I don't think any show the plow from an angle that would answer my question.

Thanks guys
Thanks,
Barry

had a minute to go downstairs before leaving for work and found my own answer... it IS open at the top, but needs some extra bracing. This according to a picture in the RCT&HS BeeLine of 1988 article by Jim Hall. Here's a copy of that picture and my progress so far...

Barry, depending on what town your plow is assigned out of depends on what number to use. in the rolling stock reference section on this site. under freight then non-revenue on page 5 it lists the steel snow plows and where they were assigned to. my scratch built one is #50 for Bridgeport, thats where I grew up just across the river in Norristown.

This is a Bradford kit... couldn't remember the name earlier.

The instructions had a very nice list of which numbered units were located were... will probably make mine #40 assigned to Reading, as that is where I picture it hanging out...
Thanks,
Barry
