TOPIC: Hobbytown RS-3 reassembly

Hobbytown RS-3 reassembly 7 years 10 months ago #5389

Hello Brothers and Sisters of the Reading Company. I recently made a common error of disassembling my Hobbytown RS-3 with flywheel drive in order to clean and lube and repaint it. All is done except for the long hood won't clear the Pittman motor (original) to attach it down. The mistake was not taking photos of the disassembly before I began. Everything seems to have gone back in order but the pesky motor sets too high on the frame for the high hood to come down flat. I also don't have the original paperwork.
I did find instructions online for the RS-3 without the flywheel drive where the motor sets centrally in a deep well in the frame, however my drive shaft components won't match up correctly. There would be no way to power the rear truck. Help if you have suggestions or have photos or a blown up schematic of this locomotive. I would really appreciate any help or advice you can offer me. Thanks so much. Yours, Johnny C.

Saw this Hobbytown kit for sale on eBay and recalled you were having trouble getting the long hood to fit. If you have not been successful, this photo should help. The chassis is fully assembled. eBay item: 401194743155.

I had a problem with this model, which turned out to be one of the motor wires dropping over the side of the motor frame then pinching against the inside of the hood. Good Luck!
