I do not have personal photos of the cars in question 9163 & 9164. I do have a Budd drawing B42-05429 dated 11/2/62 which shows spacing for the lettering in the letter boards. Something that made me crazy on the Athearn RDC until I figured out there was a window missing.

Chris - Am I understanding you have access to Champ Reading RDC, but will not be using them because you don't like their authenticity? I think I also have some and I can only say if they aren't somehow fresh be prepared to clear coat them before they go in the water. :)

It wasn't so much the authenticity as they just didn't match the Rapido cars. It could be that Rapido did it wrong!

The main issue, is that the Champs decals are both thicker (bolder?) and more condensed than the Rapido lettering. My guess was that this was to fit on the Athearn RDC, and wasn't meant for a "full size" unit.

I'm probably going to hold out for more Reading Silverliner II decal sets from IHP, since they are much more similar (at least, the words and lettering are the same dimensions, even if they letters are also a tad thicker). I already let them know I'd be interested in a few sets the next time they are available.

Another difference I can see between the Rapido model and the Reading prototypes is that the model lacks that square plate on the center door. Gonna be tricky paint matching that silver they used!

Not my era of expertise, but here are a few pics from my collection. The first is a LV 40, looks like in Qukake Pa, and the rest Reading. Also too if I can find them I will scan an image, but back in the day Cad-Track Enterprises in Bethlehem did a decal set for the RDC's.
