TOPIC: G3 lettering and numbering color

G3 lettering and numbering color 7 years 2 months ago #5749

I'm getting ready to decal a G3. I have nice decals from Dan Hicks in Allentown that are intended for the T1's and K1's. I need to use this set in order to get the tender striping with correct corners. Dan offers this set in both deluxe gold and yellow. I always thought the G3, K1 and T1 lettering was all the same and all yellow. Dan believes the K1's and T1's were the only engines with yellow lettering. So, the G3 would have been deluxe gold. Can anyone here confirm the color on the G3? Thanks.

Dave,
Years back the RCT&HS made an HO scale decal set expressly for a G-3 in dulux. The only thing with Dan's T/K set is the "Reading" is too large for the G's. Here is a color pick on the PRSL, and the old trick to get the corners correct on the tender striping was to "quarter" the letter O and use each piece then step the striping like the prototype. Otherwise, Dan makes some great products.

Thanks Bill. I appreciate the feedback. I have a set of decals in dulux made by John Hall many years ago that has the correct sized lettering for the tender. Maybe this is the same set you refer to, but there are no stripes. Anyway, it looks like dulux is correct for the G3, and it will take multiple sets do complete the engine.

Thanks again.
