What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

A buddy of mine has a devoted a webpage to Hall Signals. These just happen to be of special interest because they are from the area around RDG, PA.

Thank you Zac Gillihan for hosting these high quality photo's for us to enjoy. Make sure you click on the photo to magnify it. Many details can be found in each photo of a by gone era.

A color photo has just been added to Zac's website. It is on the Hill line North of RDG PA where the Co-op used to be.

Does anyone have drawings for the HAll (Banjo) Signal? I'd like to build one but don't know any of the dimensions.

Thanks,

Here are some photos related to the HALL signals. The first two are of a HALL signal battery "well" on the W&N Branch. The upper foot or two of the cast iron battery well is exposed above the ground. The other two photos are of the cast iron battery well "lid", which is about 13" in diameter. One view shows the top of the lid, the other the underside of the lid. The "eye" on the underside of the lid is for a lock.
The batteries for the HALL signals were in a "well" to keep them cool. The well was nothing more than a pipe placed vertically in the ground to house the batteries.
