What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Awesome, thanks guys. Yeah, I recently moved from Schuylkill Haven to King of Prussia, so I am really enjoying the access to Abrams yard, and especially checking out the Valley Forge Station.

Mitch: Conrail tore up Woodlane yard around 1997, and Lower Merion Township uses it for leaf and mulch storage. lexlowmaster: private message me so we can get together and I can let you know the good spots to watch trains. I live in Conshohocken. 10 to 15 minutes away.

Hi there.

I'm ready to turn in for the night, but I will say that if you'll give me a week or two I can provide you with some pics of Belmont. My uncle worked on the Reading. When I was very, very young my aunt and uncle lived in a house right next to the interchange tracks at Belmont. I used to go there for summer vacation (and never wanted to go back home). Belmont was quite a busy yard back then. I remember the Royal Blue trains passing through the yard.
I have blueprints of the yard as well as photos acquired and photos that I took in the 70's.

I also have a hi-rail layout in my attic that features a scratch-built model of "the interchange" (That's what we used to call the yard office) and also a model of old "B" Tower. I am excited to share.

Back in those days they had three crews working the yard. My fondest childhood memories involve the time spent at Belmont.

'Nuff for now, work comes early. Chiao.

Here's a photo of a photo that I took of a photo that appeared in an issue of Reading Railroad Magazine. Somewhere in my collection exists a much cleared version of this Reading Company photo.....but to find it.

The Reading is devastated by Hurricane Agnes; washouts and damage across the system require significant effort to repair, and also hasten the abandonment of marginal branches.
