What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

TOPIC: Reading RR Watchman Shanty Identification

Reading RR Watchman Shanty Identification 9 years 4 months ago #3642

I’m looking for information on a Watchman Shanty. Supposedly this Watchman Shanty was originally used in Shamokin, PA on the Reading RR. Sometime in the very late 1950’s or early 1960’s it was moved to the Carroll Park and Western in Bloomsburg, PA. My question is, is this a style that the Reading RR used and did it indeed come from Shamokin? The photo attached is a comparison if how it looked in 1965 at the Carroll Park and Western and how it looks today at it’s current home in Catawissa, PA. Thanks in advance for an help.

Thanks,
Andrew

I believe this may have been a Frank Furness design. The RCTHS made kits of these a couple years ago. There was a similar shanty located at the intersection of 3rd Street and the Lebanon Valley Branch in Reading, with some unique modifications. Photo attached.
