What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Nice list. Living near Abrams yard, we frequently saw C&O, B&O units in dark blue as well as the brighter Chessie Cat scheme. Also RF&P units post Conrail. In the early 1970's I also remember a WM Alco FA.

In the 60s and 70s, the N&W coal trains came up from Hagerstown running over the cross line to Allentown. Engines, hacks and crews were all N&W; the N&W crews were qualified on the Reading so no pilot was required. B&O and on rare occasions C&O power (Chessie System era) were on coal trains also running the same route going on to the N.Y. City area.

The light just came on. When a new wheel machine was installed in the Reading Shops that could turn locomotive wheels in place, other roads would send locomotives in to be serviced. The WM was a regular customer. Caught sight of a pair of Bethlehem Steel's railroad's yellow and black switchers awaiting turning.
