What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

TOPIC: Olive green commuter cars

Olive green commuter cars 7 years 10 months ago #5378

Just a comment on the old olive green electric commuter cars. Most of us that build the kits apply the window inserts. In real life, most of the time the windows were open in warm weather, some partially some wide open. So you could actually model the cars that way. Same with the shades. Use your imagination. Anything is realistic because every passenger riding could, back then, adjust the windows and their shades to their liking. That way you could even put some painted figures with their arms on the window sills looking out. I apologize if I'm offering info. that many already know. Just thought I'd put it out there as food for modeling thought.

To your point, there are some amazing model photos on American Model Builder's website of detailed passenger cars with open windows. Check it out.

The don't cover the Bethlehem Car work models with laser windows, but the concepts could be applied. On my models, I simply applied acetate to the inside - looks better than nothing.
