Speaking of decals: Mount Vernon Shops recently announced decal sets in N,HO, and O for Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines RDCs. This set includes the barricade orange/black stripping found on the front of Reading RDCs.

PRSL RDC decals

However, Walthers lists an updated HO scale P/R Seashore Lines RDC in their latest mailer catalog, so these decals might be unnecessary in that scale. I wonder why Walthers doesn’t offer a Reading RDC.

Yes, but have you tried finding one of those RDC-1s lately? Talk about “hen’s teeth”! I know they also released the RDC-2 & -3, but the -1 is most difficult to find.

On a separate note, in the same mailer catalog as the RDC, Walthers lists a 4-bay offset hopper decorated for Reading in their Trainline series. Has anyone bought this car? It looks similar in detail level to Atlas’ “Trainman” series (molded grab irons, ladders, brake detail, etc.). More a fleet builder than a show piece.

but Reading never owned 4 bay offset hoppers. about 25 years ago, the Phila. division of the NMRA released the same style car in HO scale lettered for Upper Merion & Plymouth RR. and said they were former Reading cars the UMP purchased secondhand. needless to say I did not buy any of them.

The Reading did NOT have 4-bay, offset side hoppers. They did have some 4-bay ribbed hoppers, but offsets were all of the 2-bay 50 or 55-ton variety.
