The Caboose is a place for Reading Modeler members to hang out and discuss topics of general interest, not necessarily rail-related. Come on in, the coffee's hot and the conversation is stimulating!

The placards on slide 2 of the collection would work for vehicles and rail cars as well as crates, drums and barrels. It is a useful set!

One warning, placards showing UN numbers (1760 corrosive n.o.s. or 1203 gasoline, for instance) came into general use after Reading was absorbed into Conrail. It could be prototypical to have a yellow 2067 (ammonium nitrate fertilizer) placard on a covered hopper car lettered for Reading, but not in a train with a Reading locomotive and caboose.

I was going through some old boxes my wife brought down from the attic, and there was a Popular Mechanics from Jan. 1945. I had saved this due to the article on the PRR S-2, but what a great source for vintage advertising!!! I posted a few selections from the magazine, and remember "Buy War Bonds"!!!

Hi! Found this ad for Martin Century Farms online. I added a few Sealtest ones I've edited from magazine ads.

Thanks, Norman. They'll really add local color to the layout. I remember passing the Martin's Dairy when I was a kid. I guess Rosenberger's is the last of the SE PA local dairies still in business.
