I own the tender number plate from T-1 #2126 it is a flat plate and the numbers are white paint.

Oh, dear. Sorry about that, Bill! The numbers are definitely raised on the smokebox fronts. The rear numbers appeared to use the same font, so I figured they were cast too. Butch's relic speaks otherwise.

Robin, that does not mean that all tenders had flat plates. I remember seeing a photo from WWII of women working on the Reading, and it showed a woman on the back of Pacific #107 with raised numbers on it like the ones on the front of the engine.

After looking through Ben Bernharts book on Reading Pacifics. I found photos of the back tenders of the following engines, 108, 178, 203, 213, 216. It shows all of these with raised numbers. They probably weathered to a silverish color.

I can assure you that the boiler front and tender wall numberplate has raised numbers! ;)

I have decided to paint the numbers yellow to match the rest of the lettering.

It was about 10 minutes to design and 1/2 hour to print.
