I gave my G1-sb the final coat of paint this morning. It is drying now. If it was a brass model I would have baked it but I can't!

Was the small loco class lettering under the cab number yellow or white? My one other loco the has it is yellow.

Was the loco number on the tender and boiler front badges white?

I am hoping to do the decaling tomorrow.

Thanks
Bill

The small class lettering was yellow, matching the other numbers and lettering on the loco and tender. The numbers on the number plates fore and aft were cast metal, bronze if I recall correctly. I always used the small yellow numbers in the Champion set on my HO models.

So you say the boiler front and back tender number badges were bronze - unpainted? That is a problem now because the tender badge is right from my printer. The front badge is brass.

Questions I should have asked a month ago.....

I know they were cast metal: you can see how they stand out from the number plates in photos. I think I read somewhere that they were bronze, but they take on a dull silver appearance in color photos. I've seen a few pictures taken during the Depression that show numbers painted onto the front numberplate. Those seemed to be rare exceptions. I used the small numbers that came in the Champ set because they were hard to see in HO and applying them was relatively easy. I hope I haven't caused you distress. Except for the T1s in excursion service, I wasn't around to see Reading steam in action. Maybe Casey (though he's many years my junior) has a definitve answer.

Some years ago Allen Mende published an article on building a CNJ 0-6-0 in which he described how he added high relief numbers to his model's number plates.

I am starting decaling now. I have decided to go "off spec" a bit to match my P-7.

All yellow lettering everywhere..... Hoping to have this DONE and running for my birthday at the end of July.

my birthday at the end of July

What day in July? My wife and I were both born on July 25, though not in the same year. I'm hitting the big 6 - 0 this year.

Given the quality of your modeling, Bill, you could apply pink numbers and still have an authentic looking engine. I can't wait to see the finished product!
