A fellow model railroader shared his work light idea. He mounted an LED strip in a semi-circle to sit on his work bench. Tried this with the LEDs temporarily cable tied to a piece of drop ceiling hanger wire bent in a semi-circle, anchored in blocks of scrap wood on each side of the work area. Viola! This is the perfect lighting as there are no dark, shadowed or bright spots. This also works well on the layout as it was used today for feeder wire installations.
Feeder wires soldered to the rail, I hate them as seeing them exposed destroys the track's appearance. Today, the first rail joiners with hidden leads were installed. Atlas N scale code 80 joiners are being used on Atlas HO scale code 83 rail. The joiners, straight from the package, have the leads attached to their bottoms using a resistance soldering rig and a low per cent silver solder (Believe it is 2%). The silver solder is not affected when electrical solder is used to bond the joiner to the rails. Again, the resistance soldering rig was used. Another "Viola!" moment as there is no visual evidence of the feeder wires. On second thought, the joiners were not straight from the package, following the first three rules of soldering: 1) Clean, 2) Clean, 3) Clean the joiners were shaken in a jar of 91% alcohol then left to air dry before attaching the leads.

Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
