My old friend, Bob Gottschall produced an excellent book titled "Green Machines" there may still be a fw copies available. Must have for any Reading modeler of the 1970's.

Okay, my two Green and Yellow GP-7's arrived today. Only two issues, for one, some of the side railings were not applied correctly, but that's an easy fix. The hollow end diamonds on 633 are applied a little too high. I don't really mind that little flaw. It's a smooth runner right out of the box.

It looks great mixed in with the standard Pullman Green RS-3's on the layout.

Didn't forget about this topic.The RDG g/y 7's all had their repaint differences.Numbers 607&619 were basically identical except for the placement of the diamond on the hood ends,the diamond was lower on 607.Anyway,here are pics of Athearn's 619 and my 607.See if you can spot the difference.

My goal after finishing my 45 will be to dismantle 619,match the green and repaint to the correct g/y separation lines.I also plan on removing the flank diamonds and replace with MS decals.Of course the unit will be weathered.

Finished my upgrades to my Athearn 619 this morning.My goal was to turn this show room model;

Into a hard working vet of the coal fields;

I was going to disassemble the entire model and correct the paint job with the airbrush but I decided I didn't want to fool with the head light wires.I removed all the side railings and cab and left the rest of the model assembled.I masked the areas and hand painted the green with a brush.I used PS RDG green as the base coat and when it dried I went over it with Floquil RDG green.It didn't quite match but I blended it in with weathering.
I wasn't happy with the looks or the placement of the RDG diamond on the cab so I removed it using solveset,an eraser and scotch tape.
I masked the bottom of the cab to raise the height of the green paint about 1/32 using the paint described above.Now, the green on the lower portion of the cab does not wrap around to below the doors or below the windows.It was only applied to the cab flanks on 619.I added a crew and re-attatched the cab to the body.Athearn has the control stand set up for short hood forward as we know RDG units were long hood forward,I left it as it is.
With the paint dried on the lower cab I added MS RDG diamonds and the letter R for radio to this area.
I added the railing and painted the bottom of the stanchions green.I also painted the trucks a weathered black.
I used pencil,paint and powders for the weathering.

The finished model.
