This board is the place where questions and information specific to MODELING the Reading Company, its equipment and operations can be shared - questions like "What was the window arrangement of AF Tower in Alburtis?" and "What color paint do YOU use to paint the Reading's cream-and-brown buildings?" We also want to hear about YOUR Reading modeling projects!

Yes your right Todd! According to the R G Machines book #'s 3419 & 3420 had Very angle drip strips all the other units had a straight or slightly anglar strip. All the pics I have seen of the others, including the ones I took along the Perk, had a slight angle.
To add: #3417 had green headlight covers, MU steps, grabirons on top shorthood, & fireman steps. While 3418 had front light yellow & rear green.

In the "Green Machines" book, the photos show variations in rain gutters, but also in painting of little things, like drop steps.

If you can find a copy, the RCT&HS Bee Line summer 1982 issue (vol IV, num.III) is also a good reference guide for strip locations on the GP39-2. The back cover of that issue has a near “head-on” close up of #3416.

Also, here is a link to an old discussion on another forum with several links to photos of ex-Reading GP39-2s. The page is from The Home Machinist; a very interesting forum with several relevant topics for model railroaders. It’s definitely worth a look!
