In N scale I use brass wire for the drip strips.

As for the Gp39-2s, its amazing that you modeled the nose stripes to reflect the proto. something most people either wouldn't notice, or wouldn't think it was a big deal to get it right like that. Kudos!

Hey guys. I found some pics of some Ex-Reading GP-39-2's that were aquired by the D&H from Conrail. This paint scheme was done when former Reading CEO Charles Bertrand was there before Guilford. The units had yellow barricade stripes on the short and long hoods and were solid blue and the D&H herald under the windows. 7403(3403) 7406(3406) and 7419(3419) and Ex Lehigh Valley 7315(315) GP-38-2. They look great. I did notice the stripes on the nose corner. Anyone doing that many GP-39-2's has got to read the hard to find "Reading Green Machines" Its hard to believe how differnt the stripes & various drop steps, lights, etc. were green on some & yellow on others.
Great job ! keep up the good work.

Thank You all

The RDG Green Machines book is fantastic.Mine is a signed copy by Robert Gottschall 10-06-10 book 7 of 100.Great reference and I use it all the time.

You know its funny how you look at something a thousand times and you never see the forest for the trees.I discovered the nose strip differences by accident. The last two 39-2's I did were 3418 and 3410.While I was decaling 3418 I must have caught the front upper corner and messed the stripe up,so I removed the otherside to match. Then looking at the pictures it stood out.Technically my 3418 is wrong,it had corner striping.Looking at books and pics I have found that units 3406/10/13/15/16/19 were striped this way.

There's also another difference,in RDG Diesels Vol.II pages 152/53 compare the upper corner shorthood of units 3401/09.The application on 01 is larger...just some observations.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Some of the GP39-2's have a different angle of the drip strips. Todd Shoffler
