Hi All,
I am modeling the Pottstown station (now a bank) using photoshop on my backdrop. The trackside portion (passenger concourses, wire and poles, etc>) will actually be modeled. My target date is 1975/75. When were the roofs removed from the passenger platform (the steel superstructure still exists today). How much of the wiring and distinctive poles with multiple crossbars existed then? Anybody have any mid '70's photos? Thanks in advance, Earl

I have a shot of a westbound passing the station in 1975-1976. I'll need to scan and then I will post.

Earl; passenger service ended in 1981. I would assume the platform roofs were in place until then. Butch Curll

How do the dimensions of Pottstown station compare with Reading Franklin Street? Their layout is very similar with a tall, central hall between two single-story additions.

I do see from the photo that Pottstown has a tall addition at one end that Franklin Street does not have.

Earl... I have done a model of Pottstown station out of DPM modules and it came out not too bad. Used Central Valley girders for the line poles. I will post some pictures in a few days.

I also have some interior pictures. I sent a disposable camera to the Bank manager to take pictures for me, as my model is "open" and shows the interior.
Thanks,
Barry

Did You Know?

October, 1962
Loss of mail and Railway Express Agency contracts prompts severe cuts in passenger service, including annulment of all service to Shamokin, and the Allentown-Harrisburg trains, and a reduction on remaining routes. RDCs replace most locomotive-hauled trains, freeing former passenger locomotives for freight service.
