It seems to me I have seen a model of a Reading tug boat at the Maritime Museum in Philadelphia. It was a rather large scale also, maybe 1/4 or 1/8..... If that is not TB910's work (as he says here are two, not sure where they came from)that model may be the one I refer to.

No, that model is not mine, I found it online somewhere. I'd love to be able to model a tug in the Schuylkill river up near coal country though hahahhaahaa

In the Schuylkill, maybe a rowboat. One reason why I'm researching the Reading in Philly is because of the interesting operations. Transfers to the PRSL over the DelAire bridge, or running thorough part of the B&O going to Chester. Port Richmond could fill an auditorium if done to scale.

Barry:

For the RDG diamond on the stack, perhaps the decal for a diesel would suffice. Just a thought.
For photos of the RDG tugs, you may want to contact Bob's Photos in Wallingford,KY. 606-845-3323. I've been buying RR photos from Bob for over 15 years. You may want to mention I recommended you contact him.

Here's an update -
I have started the tug model, have the hull completed so far. I am taking pictures and will post a "watch the build" article soon, let me get more completed first.

Thanks for all the pictures!! I've printed them all off and will use them. One thing I have noticed already - the Walthers tug has two stairwells to the upper deck, but the RDG tugs did not have these, as I see no openings in the upper deck floor for these stairwells. Time to get some styrene and plug those holes! I've also made a fairly grave mistake, but believe my solution will be more than acceptable.

Ron ... I never heard back from the Rail & Shafts people... could you please scan that article and email it to me (or post here too)? Thanks!

One last question for anyone who has built one of these kits...
The instructions say to build the lower cabin by gluing the walls to the main deck, then the upper deck on to the walls. Could I (should I??) build the walls of the cabin to the uppder deck, then glue that assembly to the main deck?
I'm thinking of doing it this way, to help in painting.
Thanks,
Barry
