TOPIC: Reading Lines Tugs

Reading Lines Tugs 11 years 2 months ago #703

The Brandywine and Schuykill look very similar to the NH's Bumble Bee and Cordelia, and Erie's Marion which were built by Jakobson Shipyard in Oyster Bay, NY.
The Walther's model represents this tug.
You have a good start with the Walthers model.

Rick - thanks for the encouragement!
and thanks for the additional photo!

I view this model as a start point and will modify what I can to try to match the photos I have and what's posted here.

have to review the BEELINE issues... thinking there was some info or pictures in there over the last 30 years!
Thanks,
Barry

Barry:

Looks like the RDG diamond is on a plate attached to the funnel.
As a point of interest, many years ago, in a galaxy far, far away. . .
they used to have RR tugboat races up the North River in NYC. From what I was told, the RDG Shamokin won all the time.
Probably the only tug with "Wooten Crankcase." LOL

FYI, I believe that the Shamokin and her two sisters had Alco, 1600HP, model 244 engines, similar to the FA-1 and RS-3. Pottsville, Shamokin and Tamaqua if I'm not mistaken.

Barry, I found the Reading Railroad Magazine with the tugs. It's issue 1, volume 25 Jan, 2009. Bernhart published it. It does have the drawings and some dimensions. I don't have the 2nd part of the article. I bought this issue on Ebay a year ago. Thats what started my gears turning on modeling one of these.
