What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Check out the GP35 page in the "Diesel Locomotive Reference" section for a nice shot of #3640 in its all-green paint...

It's a bit grainy, but here's a shot of one of the Belt Ry of Chicago's ex-RDG cabooses, at Clearing Yard (Chicago) in 1982 on a trip I took that way. Sleety and terrible weather, but it was on a Sunday and I had the yard to myself. Nobody around to ask or kick me out!...used in MW service by the looks of it. Wonder if that's the original Rdg caboose red -might be looking at how faded the BRC lettering is!

Another eBay grab, this time it’s U30C 6300 new and in transit. Interesting how the green/yellow separation is handled around the area below the brake wheel. I never noticed that before in other shots. I wonder what that paper is stuck behind the windshield wiper. Also, note the exhaust is capped or covered with something.

2-10-2 #3001 in 1951. Location: maybe Temple hill?

Yep, another slide found on eBay! Anyone know approximately when and where this photo was taken and why a PC SD45 would be coupled to a T1?

My guess is that the setting is probably somewhere close to horseshoe curve and the PC unit is a helper “required” for the light move because it is upgrade. Maybe an iron horse ramble in the late 60s?

I know at one point (I believe in the early 70s), #2102 was used in excursion service over Horseshoe Curve. I believe the tender was lettered "ALLEGHENY" at the time - my guess would be this photo has something to do with one of those trips.
