On Microsoft Word - Take a look at "Elephant" Steve Gilbert, who has lettered more than one piece of Reading equipment has referred to this. Although looking at it I would think freight, not so much passenger. In fact not even at all for passenger unless you can figure out how to stretch it.

I would communicate with him or someone at the RCT&HS if I were looking to letter something in 1=1 scale. They have access to stencils and or letter diagrams to create stencils.

Maybe I can help you. I had a NJCB Brass set of Reading MU's pro painted last year. I wanted the most prototypical lettering I could find. The BCW Railworks decals were not very sharp and nothing else quite fit the bill, so I made my own. I started with a scan of the actual car stencil which full size. I then imported it into Corel Draw and overlaid it with the Extended Railroad Roman Font. There are many differences in the letters. Particularly the R and the G. I tweaked the font until it matched the letters exactly. Then I resized it to HO scale and printed the lettering in gold on an ALPS printer. If you would like I would be happy to print the lettering for you and some Reading heralds in white the next time I print decals. However, I'm pretty sure that the Blueliner lettering and heralds were done in a light creme to match the window bands. I cannot print a light creme color without some dithering which makes the thin strokes on the letters print without satisfactory crispness. I have also printed the silver and black "WATCH YOUR STEP" decals, but the lettering is very hard to read.
BTW - the MU's came out very nice and I installed lighting and DCC with sound (Pennsy MP54 was as close as I could manage). If I can ever figure out how to post a picture on the forum I will.

I would definitely be interested in some of those decals if you do print them up!

Really nice job on the MUs, Butch. Are they powered?

I remember hearing about the RPO combine from my father. He rode the Reading to commute from Doylestown to Temple U and Penn Law School during and after WWII (he was 4F as a result of childhood polio).

they are not powered. I was going to use the Northwest shortlines midget, because they had one with a 8ft. wheel base. but they are not made anymore. there were 2 RPO MU's Reading converted them to straight combines in 1956.
