To answer your question about the two tone combine. I used SCII for the Pullman green and Floquil Reading green for the window bands.

How novel - Reading green on a Reading combine! Thanks, Bill. Now I might have to rethink the colors I use on my combine.

Incidentally, this site sure seems to attract guys named William!

on page 5 of this forum topic I have a photo of an MU combine that I built from a BCW kit. I used Floquil pullman green with a little engine black added. for the windows I used Floquil Reading green.

My take on that (and I have no evidence) is that they used that green on everything. The paperwork I used for the Bee Line article on GP-30's way back in 1986 (VIII No 2 I believe) had a letter from the Reading to EMD stating a similar green and yellow should be used for the new GP-30's as was used in the stripes on the F-units. I am not saying they used the same kind of paint on everything which could also explain color shifts. But when we took color chips that we found and went around various pieces of equipment those colors were really, really close. We also found at one time and this is in those archives somewhere, paperwork that discussed the Reading painting passenger tenders "Brunswick Green" in order to pleasingly transition from the black locos to the green coaches. Not saying they did.. just saying I read it.

Does anyone have an HO Taylor passenger truck sideframe they'd be willing to let me borrow? With Eastern Car Works being long gone, I've given up hope of ever finding any to buy. I know someone with a 3D scanner and a Makerbot 3D printer, so I thought I might give that route a try. (3D CAD has too steep of a learning curve for me.)

I know that the two trucks had differing wheelbases, but I'm willing to overlook that.

I see that IHP, in their Shapeways shop, has the trucks along with several bodies, the underframe and roof details, but they are a little pricey for me. (Well over $300 to put together an unpowered model sans wheels, pantograph and couplers. I also don't like the fact that there are no photos, only "Digital Previews" in the Shapeways shop. Makes me feel like I'm buying blind.)

So I'm back to kit-bashing from the BCW offerings.

If I can't borrow a sideframe, would someone be willing to make a rubber mold of one for me? I would, of course, compensate for any materials, postage, etc.

John Greene, Bethlehem Car Works, had a cast metal Taylor passenger truck prototype on display at last years Reading Modelers Meet. I don't know if he went any farther with the project.
