on the K-1's the split sand domes were the N-1 rebuilds, the full sand domes were the K-1's that were built brand new. a good starting point for a T-1 or K-1 tender would be a NKP berkshire tender, it has the basic shape for a T-1 tender.

Good point. the water side of the tender should only need to be cut down by a few scale inches and styrene sheet replaced, and the Berkshire shell would be a good base for the T-1's big dome too. Sell the mechanism and recoop a little of the cost

I think I'm going to use the new Bachmann J tender as the base for the T1 tender. The center spacing of the trucks in 27' just like the T1 and the sides of the coal bunker are already curved, the coal bunker sheathing just needs to be trimmed back to T1 specs. The J tender also comes with trucks that are kind of right but to short at 8.3 ft vs the t1 10' base trucks. Good news in the buckeye trucks on the GS4 have the right spacing at 9.8Ft if you want to modify them, but the way they mount is kind of weird with a clip in vs a screw in design. Its not impossible though, I've already successfully installed the kato trucks on a Y6b riverossi tender by using some super-thin head screws.

Learned something new tonight, K1 tenders had a longer truck spacing, 29' vs the T1 27'. I think I'll stick with the J base and extend it some for the k1 and just make the k1 tender shell from styrene, easy enough cause the sides are straight on the bunker! Happy times

woops I stand corrected, the K1 tenders actual have a 4' 5" axle spacing so the J tender trucks are perfect at 4' 6"...although some detail changes need to be done to be correct, the major one being roller bearing --> friction bearing.

All the pictures I have found of the K1 tenders show they have friction bearings, did they ever get roller bearing tender trucks?
