What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Hello group,

I just dropped off some slides to get them “digitized” and printed. The place I found is right in Shillington, PA called Bowers Photo. Now, it was not cheap to get them done, so I’ll be anxious to see what the results are when I pick up the processed photos in about a week. There are some Reading slides along with a few of PC trains in and around Reading. I'll post them probably next weekend. Stay tuned!

Some time back there was a discussion regarding Athearn's lettering of RS-3 464 with the short end as the front. Here is the evidence to support their choice of lettering. However, the model still needs lots of improvements to match the prototype.

I found this location while flying around on maps, and recently a corresponding vintage pic and info. EJ Lavino steel was in Sheridan pa. Just west of Newmanstown on the Lebanon valley main. I love all the trestles, the Bessemer furnace, and the black and yellow paint scheme.

That car is probably the RDG 97035 from the Welded Rail Train that the RBM&N has owned for years.

As Bill mentioned earlier of a MOW flat in New Ringgold, and John believes it to have been RDG 97035. An interesting history can be made from this car and the Readings frugal nature. Now, starting way back in 1941, Reading ordered the GHh "Bethlehem" gondola, picture no.1. This car served well until the flourishing TOFC movement and in 1959 was cut down to become an FCb, picture no.2. Then, the TTX 75' cars allowed two trailers, and these cars now became the FMn class for auto frames, picture no.3. Lastly, this flat became the CWR train. So if FMnx 97035, was FMn 9423, was FCb 9827, was GHh 25934. Quite a bit of stories this relic could tell!
