We Heard You Missed Us, We're Back!

Written by Conductor

After a longer-than anticipated absence, The Reading Modeler is back on line!  The site is now brought to you using Joomla, a content management system that is much more current than the prior platform that we were using.  It will allow for much better presentation of info, easier updates, and a better overall user experience.  We're excited about this technology upgrade, and hope that you'll find the new version of The Reading Modeler is a significant improvement over the old version.  We also now have two domain names - our new domain, www.readingmodeler.info, and the old standby, www.readingmodeler.com.

That said, it's been a long process to get to this point, and we're still not finished.  Moving all of the site content over to the new platform has been an entirely manual process - contrary to our hopes we were not able to automate the process.  Thus, the present incarnation of the site is incomplete, and there's a fair amount of content that remains to be moved.  Here's a summary of what's available:

  • Part of the Photo Gallery has been created, with both prototype and model photos
  • The Downloads section has been transferred
  • Several articles, including the 1970 Freight Schedule, are available
  • The Reading Modeler Forum and Company Store are operational

Here's what remains to be added/updated:

  • The remainder of the Photo Gallery needs to be transferred
  • Some articles need to be transferred, and edited to fit the new format
  • The Freight Shippers' Guide needs to be reprogrammed (this may take awhile)
  • The Web Links section needs to be developed

IMPORTANT!  As much as we wanted to, we have been unable to port the membership records from the old site over to the new platform - the databases are simply not compatible.  Thus, you will need to re-register for participation on the Forum.  We're sorry for the inconvenience, but look on the bright side - if you've been part of our community, this gives you a chance to change your username if you like, AND to start over in the Forum rankings - let's see who can rise through the ranks most quickly!

So please click "LOGIN" above to register for an account, explore the look and feel of the site, and let us know what you think - if you've got questions, comments, or encounter any issues, let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.!

Happy Modeling,

Tom Jacobs
