What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Anyone checked out the new offering by Bachmann. A RDG TOFC combo. The flatcar is totally bogus as the RDG used cut down gondolas that were made into flatcars for their TOFC service. The flatcars had no stakepockets like on the Bachmann model. They did however have the leftover ribs from the cutdown gondolas.

Now the trailer is quite promising. It resembles the Strict trailers in the 3500 series. (with a little work. It could easily pass as the 100 series trailers built by Gindy). The model has no side door but that could be easily added. From photo's. That is the only problem that I see as far as accuracy. Except the paint job. Unless you are modeling the very first trailers about 1955 or so. The diamond should be blue with white lettering. Bachmann has it as black with yellow lettering.

Now comes the problem. Currently Bachmann only sells the trailer in a trailer-flatcar combo pack. Which I really do not need. I would buy about 8 trailers if they were sold separately. We have needed an accurate trailer like this for a long time. Maybe if enough people wrote Bachmann. The would consider selling the trailers separately!
