What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Anybody have any photos of the City Branch, specifically the yard under the Philadelphia Inquirer Building. My uncle used to do relief yardmastering there from time to time.

I found this photo on the web:

I also found this photo:

Of note: I once rode a switcher up this ramp. The crew spotted a box car at street level in the left side of the photo. A long time ago.

There are photos posted on Railpictures.net of the tunnel interiors some 70 years later. I think they are by Mitch Goldman. Now I have a better understanding. Enjoyed this posting.

All that multi-level trackage is simply amazing. The Philly records site is quite a resource. Thanks for posting Janis. Wish I could see a track plan of that ramp area.
