I received my SW1001 shells and fuel tanks yesterday. They are beautiful.
Some Reading and Conrail notes and a question.
Conrail had notches at the top of the pilot as this model has.
The Reading units will have no notches so we'll have to add these to the pilot as well the footboards and pilot handrail above the uncoupling bar. Conrail units had no footboards and no handrail on pilot.
I have adapted an Athearn SW1000 frame and motor and it fits well enough. Little bit of work on rear truck and gear tower to make it free moving and swivel.
The SW1001 was developed to have the same basic dimensions as a standard SW from EMD to meet clearances that the new SW1000 and SW1500 models did not meet.
My question is this. The top of the cab should be lower than the SW1500 but the top of the hood is what dimension above the rails?
It might be the same as an SW1500 because it is the same 645 Engine and cradle. that would be 12 feet six and five eighths of an inch above the track per my Reading Company Loco Plans Book.

Do you have this dimension from your drawings?
The top of the carbody walkway would also be a good dimension to have to set up this body on the Athearn frame.

Thanks!!!!

Forgot the pictures. Hope I remember how to do this.
This is with an Athearn SW100 same as SW1500 frame with AAR trucks and roller bearings.

there were HO plans in RMC several years ago. I will have to look them up in my files when I get home from work.

Chris; there was a 3 part article on the SW-1000/SW1001, SW1500, and MP-15AC MP-15DC, the HO plans for the SW-1001,SW-1500,and MP-15DC were of Reading locomotives.
