Here are some pictures of the hinged end door of the boxcars located at West Cressona Yard at the old roundhouse. XAg # 19583 and 19561.

The second and third photo is of the hinged end door of an XAg at the Mahonoy Plane near Frackville, Pa. First photo is of the end door. (remind me to bring a chain saw and cut down that stupid tree). The last photo shows the same car and the roof. Note that the running boards are diamond tread plate mounted directly to the roof. It is not a raised roofwalk like on the P2000 car. But that can be easily replaced.

So I believe that the P200 car from Lifelike would be an excellant starting point for an XAg end door boxcar.

Yes, I’m eager to get this project started too. Those pictures “rdg1187prr” posted are very helpful, thank you! After checking the various doors in my hoard of kits, I wasn’t able to find a Red Caboose door for comparison to the Creco door. Most likely, I’ll modify a Branchline Superior door since they’re still readily available and will take less time to rework than scratch building new doors.

By the way, here is the link to the drawing for the XAg posted on The Alphabet Route:

Here are some additional photos to help out, these were from a friends collection taken I think in the late 70's.

Be warned - I ordered some Red Caboose Creco doors to model some class of Reading boxcar several months back, and what I received was NOT what I expected - the doors were considerably smaller than the normal size. I think your idea to start with a Branchline (Atlas) door makes sense.

Tom you are correct about the Creco doors by Red Caboose. They were made for the X-29 style box with a scale height of 8'3", but they also made Superior doors that may work for this project. The ideal doors would have a scale height of 10' or a car body of 10'6" I.H., in which no one made a 3 panel door for this application. I have been working on a (Proto based) XMxa and ended up using a C&BT shops 8' W by 10' H seven panel Superior door which looked the best overall. I am not quite sure but Kadee might have the correct Superior door for the XAg project as the PS-1 boxcar they released shares the same door height of 10' (10'6" I.H.).
