Well! I've been out of modeling for about a year, but i'm jumping back in. I'm traveling right now but I am working on 3D printing. I don't have my Reading Steam book, and I am looking for a side shot of these hoppers. I know for sure they were used a lot for ash around the Gordon complex, but haven't seen any other reference to them.

Does anyone have a half decent shot of the side? I have the measurements, but in my program it doesn't quite look right...

See attached. I am using Skethcup, and the top hopper I drew is according to length and width measurements from an Alphabet Route drawing. But the model I drew looks too tall, or the hopper angles are incorrect. The drawing i did over the picture looks much better, but is a scale 3-4 feet too short....Cant have that, so I need some help.

If there is no proto pic available, are the HTHj or HTo pretty close side-by-side?

Here are three shots from my archives, they should help out greatly with your project at hand. Oh, and if you 3D print these in N scale, try one in HO to make a resin casting from. There is a definite interest in this hopper, Bill

An old paint scheme, however if you look on this sites rolling stock reference in the articles dropdown, under freight then hoppers there is a direct side shot of the HTh note the camera beside the class on the list indicating there is a photo.

And isn't there a real HTh out at the RR museum of PA in Strasburg?

To ballpark a dimension, try to find a common dimensioned detail, such as the 33"(railhead to top of tread)wheel of this car, then scale the car side to the wheel. The HTh makes an eye catching model as the side ribs alternate in weight (size and shape). These cars are frequently seen in photos found in the Bee Line and Morning Sun books of the Reading engine facility and Gordon engine house. A calendar of the RCT&HS or the RLHS Pottstown Chapter has an excellent black and white photo of these cars on the ash track at Gordon. A cloudy day shot that plainly shows the details.

I see no reason not to offer any N scale cars in HO as well! Anything to further the Reading Modeler world!
