What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

As the subject says, did the brewery have any cars that they owned, and may have rode on the rails around the system?

Hey Turbo...Growing up in the Pottsville area I do not recall seeing any privately owned Yuengling cars or pictures of same.
If their product was transported by rail they needed to truck it a couple of blocks to the RDG yard. There was no direct rail service to the brewery.
They off loaded the grain into trucks at Mount Carbon about a mile or so away.I believe they still use this off loading site for the Pottsville brewery. It seemed to me that it was always a Chicaco&Northwestern grain car at the off loading site.

Gotcha. thanks. i was hoping there would be a couple cars i could build like the Hershey XMph cars. i realize that if there weren't any rails directly to the brewery, maybe they trucked everything instead. on that note, how about yuengling trucks during the 1950s!

Now,they did have a fleet of trucks.I've taken a few tours of the brewery and they have some great profile pics of their trucks hanging on the walls. The brewery trucks were red.Across the street from the brewery Yuengling had an ice cream plant, those trucks were blue and white.Chevy,Dodge,Ford,International,White,Mack they had them all.
In Pa they can't sale directly to the customer, they sale to distributors. The distributors had their vehicle painted with Yuengling signage.

They have a web site and sell all kinds of Yuengling stuff. There might be some books offered with historical history of the company.
Maybe the Schuykill County historical can offer some photos.

Turbo... the web site is www.yuengling.com I did't see any books offered at their online store, however at schuykillhistory.org they offer an Images of America publication titled D.G. Yuengling & Son,Inc. I'm sure this will have pics of their trucks. In fact,I'm going to order a copy.Take care.
