What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Recognize a few from coal country, they are #42 Lofty tunnel, # 48 East Mahanoy Junction, and at home #49 in Tamaqua. Take note of the water tower, this is quite a Reading oddball as the base is octagon shape, and the stone foundation is still mostly intact.

This is great news the Mercantile Library is sharing these photos from the long career of John W. Barriger III. Clicking on "All Sets" shows what tremendous breadth his whole collection spans.

It was my pleasure to meet him at his office when he was President of of the MKT. It was truly an unforgettable experience because we had gone to get publicity goodies: pencils, pens, pamphlets, etc.

While we were occupied, we noticed the gentleman in the 3-piece suit with the gold chain across the vest enter the room. He invited us into a nice meeting room, told us he appreciated railfans and made himself available for a couple minutes to answer questions. I do not recall being able to say much more than "Thank you, sir."

#4 appears to be taken in Sellersville on the Bethlehem Branch. The train's crossing the East Branch of the Perkiomen, and Sellersville station's in the left background. St. Michael's Lutheran Church is on the hill to the right. The railroad swings to the east and runs behind the church and cemetery on its way to Perkasie.
