What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

So Reading had 47 stock cars, class during the early 1950s. I don't have my register handy to know exactly what years they were on the roster but it's packed up. So does anyone have any info on them? The Alphabet route has a blueprint drawing of the class as well, and this model looks pretty close to it. Does anyone here know how accurate this model could be? I have failed to find any info on them in years. I'd like to have 5 of these cars, just need to wait and see if this is an accurate representation of them. Thanks!

The stock car dimensions are as follows 38' 3 1/2" outside length, 9' 4 1/2" width, and 12' 3" to the top of the running boards. For us HO scale modelers, F&C has done all the leg work, I really don't know what is available in N scale, but the photo posted looks as if its too long and too tall. As far as longevity check out the rolling stock section of the site, the last cars left in January 1958.

Was digging through binders of Reading info, and for those who might want a print of these stock cars September 1953 Model Railroader produced a 1/48 scale drawing by Harold Giessel.
