What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

I posted a few of my own photos from the early Conrail years, in the Prototype Photos thread, just earlier tonight. Many of them were taken on a ride to Pottsville, back in the Summer of 78.

When you post there's a box below the text area for adding attachments (photos stored on your system).

The other route (also when posting a reply) is to click on the Image Link icon at the top and paste in the location of a photo that is stored somewhere on the internet, like this one stored at Trainlife.com

Speaking of 40's to 50's, is it correct that the Main Line from Norristown past Valley Forge to Phoenixville was 4 tracks?

When did it basically become 2 tracks?

Is it correct that Black Rock Tunnel is 2 tracks now?
Was it 2 tracks during the 4-track era?

George

quick & Dirty answer.. 4 tracks thru at least 1977 from Abrams Yard(roughly) to Perkiomen Jct. Then 2 to Reading except for the tunnel. All may have not been "Main" tracks but I believer 3 were considered main tracks, with CTC on one of them...Black Rock tunnel was single-tracked, then back to 2 on the bridge across the Schuylkill. I'm gonna guess single tracking of there and Flat Rock tunnel was 50's some time...
