What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

TOPIC: Philly to Reading

The other day I was looking at slides I shot in 1969 from the head-end of an RDC from Reading Terminal to Franklin St. in Reading. WOW, did they bring back memories. Blueliners, FP7s and at the Reading shops, BLW switchers, RS-3s and other goodies. As the Moody Blues said. . ."Days of Future Past."

I'm with the rest, please share. Was there ever an easier railroad to get RDC "cab rides" with?
(even if the door was closed, they alwasy kept the curtain open if the conductor saw you had a camera!)

Unfortunately, I do not have a slide scanner. If it was not such a haul from CT, I'd be more than pleased to share all my RDG stuff with you at a slide show.
Do you guys have a central meeting location?

Rick

Rick,

You can get a good slide scanner for pretty cheap. I just bought the Canon 9000F. It's a great slide scanner and comes with great software for editing images (fixing backlight, changing color cast, etc.). It costs only about $150.

I really do recommend scanning your slides. I'm in the process of scanning my grandfather's slides from the 1950s. They are in good shape. The color on them is good because they are Kodachrome and were stored in a good environment, but some of them have specks on them.

I believe that these are mold or fungus that are eating the celluloid. I've purchased some slides on eBay before, and some of them have a lot of mold or fungus on them. They were probably not stored in the best environment.

In any case, digital files don't age, but slides will.
