What's the difference between a GP40-2 and GP39-2? What year did the Reading dieselize? How many tracks were in Rutherford Yard? This board focuses on a discussion of questions or issues concerning the "prototype" Reading Company and its predecessors. While the aim of this board is to serve as a resource for prototype information for modeling purposes, general discussion and sharing of knowledge is also encouraged.

Hello folks. I was wondering what if any foreign roads might be loaded at the Rdg served coal mines/colleries in the 70-75 timeframe? Any recommended books on the mines? Thank you!

Watching the coal trains going and coming out of the New St. Nicholas back in that time period I recall PRR,Clinchfield,N&W,Chessie,WM and yellow striper EL. Most of these were of the 70 and 100 ton variety. Hoppers rated at 50,55 ton were mostly WM and RDG units.
